Romulo Pires – Brazilian Born Top Model has a Love for the Exotic

As a boy, Romulo Pires never thought about leaving Brazil and exploring the world. He couldn’t know at the time that fate would step in one day when he was 18, and set him on a course for faraway places and exotic locations. Fate had a name – Marina Sakamoto – a talent scout from a modeling agency in Brasilia. She convinced him to enter a modeling competition which he eventually won.

Throughout his career, Romulo Pires has traveled the world for campaigns and runway shows. He has worked for some of the world’s most prominent, luxury brands including Pepe Jeans, Christian Lacroix, Lagerfeld Gallery, cK1, Bloomingdales, Cartier, Macy’s, Gucci and Valentino. Along the way, he has also worked for some of the most talented photographers including Juan Aldabaldetrecu and Steven Meisel.

Romulo Pires loves his professional modeling career because it has afforded him the opportunity to not only pick up other languages, like Italian and French, but also because he enjoys having a job that is always changing, always taking him to new places and meeting new people. He has traveled to Japan’s Shibuya Crossing with Karl Lagerfeld and been engulfed in a sea of Japanese people, and talks fondly about the experience because in the end, the shoot was highly successful.

Paris is the City of Lights, it’s the City of Love, and it’s the Fashion Capitol of the World. Paris is also Romulo Pires’ favorite fashion city because their style of living fascinates him, and the ancient city with its cathedrals and beautiful architecture makes him feel like he’s living in the past. He has had the opportunity to travel to Paris to walk the Louis Vuitton and John Galliano shows in 2008. He also traveled to nearby Milan to walk a show for fashion icons Giorgio Armani and Etro.

Everyone has a bucket list of things they want to do before they die. Professionally, shooting at Mt. Everest is on Romulo Pires’ bucket list because he has always had an intense fascination and curiosity about the Himalayas, and the history behind Mt. Everest. Personally, he would love to visit the Solomon Islands near Papua New Guinea. At the rate Romulo is going, shooting everywhere around the world; it’s certainly only a matter of time before he can scratch these two items off his bucket list.

Romulo Pires

As much as Romulo Pires loves his modeling career, he fondly maintains a personal life that is rich with family, friends and adventure. He comes from a family of 13 children, which might explain his affable personality and cooperative attitude. Upon signing his first modeling contract, his mother was extraordinarily proud of Romulo, not just for changing his own life for the better, but for helping to improve the lives of his entire family.

Romulo Pires

Flashing his brilliant smile and brooding bedroom eyes into the cameras of famous editorial photographers, he has gained quite a number of fans who adore him. His advice on dating is simply to work your hardest to find someone who cares about you, so you can care wholeheartedly about them back.

Romulo Pires

Maintaining such a strong, sculpted physique is easy for Romulo because he engages in a daily exercise and diet routine. Romulo runs daily, and eats six small meals throughout the day to keep his metabolism running high. For fun, exercise, and for keeping those perfect muscles toned, he also plays soccer and practices the combat sport Muay Thai.

Romulo Pires’ typical non-working day includes playing pool or cards with friends, going to the bar or theater with friends or playing tennis. Some of the people Romulo counts among his friends include fellow models Philip Huang, Owen Steuart, and Evandro Soldati.

Romulo Pires

Romulo is fond of traveling the world for modeling, and one of his favorite memories is when he traveled to Shibuya Crossing in Japan. He was there with Karl Lagerfeld for a W Magazine shoot, and when the Japanese spotted Karl, they became entranced, because they consider him the “Fashion Emperor.” The models were lost in this crowd of thousands, and when they finally found each other, they were jubilant and laughing and the shoot came together beautifully with the sea of Japanese people as their background.

Romulo Pires – Jet Setting Model Travels the World

As a young boy growing up in Brazil, Romulo Pires never dreamed, and could probably never have imagined, where life would take him one day. It was a chance meeting that drew Marina Sakomoto to him on a day when she needed her flat tire fixed, and Romulo was working at the garage where she stopped. Marina worked as a scouting agent for a modeling agency in Brasilia, and she told Romulo that he had star quality and that he should pursue modeling.

Romulo Pires

As fate would have it, Romulo won the first talent search he entered, and soon after that he received a call from Karl Lagerfeld to work for Chanel and the Lagerfeld Gallery. This was the breakthrough that Romulo needed, as it was at that time when Romulo no longer dreamed of playing soccer for a living, but looked forward to a career as a model with shoots in all corners of the globe.

Romulo Pires

As a model, Romulo Pires has walked runways, shot high-profile luxury campaigns, and been photographed by world famous photographers. His work has taken him to Milan to walk the Giorgio Armani and Etro shows there, it has taken him to Paris, to walk the Louis Vuitton and John Galliano shows, and it has also taken him to Japan, with Karl Lagerfeld, where they shot for W Magazine.

Romulo Pires

What happened to Romulo Pires in Japan is one of his favorite modeling career memories. At the time, he was at Shibuya Crossing with Karl Lagerfeld when they were overcome by an enormous crowd. The models were scattered and lost each other. Romulo has commented that this event was fun, scary and exhilarating. By the time the models found each other and the shoot could start, there was a crowd of thousands of Japanese people as their backdrop.

Even though Romulo Pires currently lives in New York City, it doesn’t stop him from dreaming about his favorite “bucket list” shoot location. Romulo has always been a fan of the history of Mount Everest and the Himalayas. Perhaps his interest lies in the fact that it is so distinctly contrasting to his homeland, Brazil. Romulo, a self-professed eclectic Gemini, is not fond of routine, but likes to shake things up a bit. Mt. Everest is the perfect location for devoted fans to see Romulo, dark haired beauty, posing on the windy foothills.

Hot Brazilian Model Romulo Pires is King of the Runway

Brazilian model Romulo Pires is a fashion photographer’s dream. His Italian/Brazilian ancestry has blessed him with the perfect frame, and the face of a Roman god. Marina Sakomoto saw this when she stopped to get a flat tire changed at the garage where Romulo worked. At the time, she was working for a model scouting agency in Brazil, and told Romulo that he had “the look” for fashion modeling.

Romulo Pires

Since that time in 2001 when he was 18, Romulo’s classic image has graced high-end fashion magazines, commercials and runways. He has been dubbed one of “Brazil’s Model Royalty” because of his seamless ability to model for any luxury brand and adapt flawlessly. Before even walking a runway, Romulo Pires appeared in high profile campaigns for the Lagerfeld Gallery and Chanel. After Romulo’s very first entrance into the modeling world, by winning a modeling search contest run by the Elite Modeling Agency of Brazil, Karl Lagerfeld took notice of Romulo and took him under his wing and allowed Romulo to develop a rather extraordinary modeling portfolio, as well as a stellar reputation.

Romulo Pires

Modeling takes more than just good looks and a dream. Romulo is also blessed with a quiet charisma and magnetic allure that nearly sweeps people off their feet. Romulo Pires

Romulo Pires’ advice to other models who are hoping to break into the industry is to stay true to yourself and try to always be your best, because in the modeling business, people are always going to be their best and they are always, always prepared. Also, always remember the names of people who made you who you are.

Twist of Fate Helps Launch Mega Model Romulo Pires’ Career

It’s not every day that you get recognized as having a talent that will send you around the world to work with dozens of luxury brands and famous models, photographers and stylists. Romulo Pires was working as a mechanic in Brazil when his day came.

Romulo Pires

Marina Sakamoto, working with a scouting agency in Brasilia, had the unfortunate, yet fortunate timing of getting a flat tire, but then stopped at the shop where Romulo worked to get it fixed. Marina told Romulo that he was attractive and had the innate skill for modeling. With her encouragement, Romulo entered into a model search held by Elite Model Management in Brazil, and subsequently won first place.

Romulo Pires

It was just a matter of time after that, and when Karl Lagerfeld called to have him work for The Karl Lagerfeld Gallery and Chanel, Romulo Pires career shot off the map into space. Since then, he has been seen on runways, in editorial shoots, in luxury brands and fragrance commercials in all types of locations all around the world. For Romulo, it’s all a part of the business, and he adores it. It gives him a chance to foster the Gemini that he is, by being eclectic and never getting stuck doing exactly the same thing.

Romulo Pires

Even though his first dream was to become a Brazilian soccer player (as is the dream of most young Brazilian boys) his life has taken a different turn and his family, especially his mother, is very proud. Being very religious, Romulo Pires’ mother believes that God has a plan for all of us, and for Romulo, he was able to decipher that plan and lead their family to a better life, by moving them to a better area in Brazil.

Romulo Pires

Romulo Pires loves modeling, but it isn’t the only aspect of his life he cherishes. His family includes 13 other brothers and sisters, and they are extremely important to him. When he’s not working he loves to spend time with his family and friends. Between editorial shoots for magazines and walking runways in exotic locales, Romulo Pires might be seen catching a movie, playing pool with his friends, playing soccer, practicing Muay Thai, or running, to help keep his already chiseled body in primo shape.
