Romulo Pires – From Mechanic to Model, a Timeline

In 1983, when the world was obsessed with Rubik’s Cube’s, Cabbage Patch Kids and Hacky Sacks, a family in Brazil welcomed a tiny bundle of joy named Romulo into the world. Romulo Pires was a pretty normal kid who grew up with dreams of becoming a famous soccer player, as many of his friends did. Soccer is Brazil’s most favorite sport, and they hold their athletes in very high regard, some of which include Pele, Roberto Carlos and Marta.

But soccer was not meant to be Romulo Pires’ destiny. Instead, while working as a mechanic at the age of 18, he was spotted by a talent scout and encouraged to enter the Elite Model Management talent search, for which he won first place. Two years later, famous German fashion designer, Karl Lagerfeld, called. This propelled him toward working with iconic brands like Chanel, Macy’s, Bloomingdales, Neiman Marcus, Valentino, Pepe Jeans, Gucci, Christian Lacroix, and still others. His is the face of a generation, the face that elite brands have readily adapted for their own luminary visions.

At the age of 23, Romulo Pires appeared in a Spanish GQ editorial, photographed by Madrid photographer Juan Aldabaldetrecu. Juan’s work has also been seen in EPS, Elle, GQ, and XL Semanal. In the same year, Romulo was photographed by Steven Meisel for Italian fashion designer, Valentino. The following year, his contract with Gucci was renewed, and he also modeled for the Louis Vuitton catalog.

In his twenties he appeared in a Glamour magazine editorial, and walked the catwalk for both Georgio Armani and Etro in Milan. He appeared in the 2006 Fall issue of VMan, a men’s fashion magazine established three years earlier that has also featured celebrities like Josh Brolin, Orlando Bloom, James Franco and Stephen Dorff.

More recently, Romulo has appeared in a Madame Figaro editorial, and graced the streets of Paris to walk in a John Galliano show there. Branching out into the world of fragrances, Romulo signed a contract to work for Calvin Klein One.
Between all of the shoots and the runways and the editorials, Romulo loves to spend time with family and friends. He still finds time to play soccer but has since given up his childhood dreams, in favor of seeing the world as the coveted and refined mega model he has become.
