Supermodel Romulo Pires Enjoys The Quiet Life

When Brazilian supermodel Romulo Pires was a young boy growing up in Brasilia, Brazil, his life’s ambition was to be a soccer player for the Brazil national football team. However, fate intervened in the guise of modeling scout Marina Sakamoto, and while Romulo was fixing her flat tire at the mechanic’s shop he was employed at, she asked him if he had ever considered modeling. Naturally, the thought hadn’t crossed his mind, but Sakamoto convinced Romulo to compete in a modeling contest being sponsored by Elite Models Management in Brazil. Romulo won first place, of course, and was soon performing in ad campaigns for the most renowned fashion houses in the world.

He has been seen in catalogues for Bloomingdales, Macy’s, and Neiman Marcus, has appeared in ads for CK One, Cartier, and Christian Lacroix, and has walked runways for everyone from Galliano to Etro. There is almost nobody in the fashion industry who Romulo hasn’t worked with, and the index of renowned photographers who have snapped his profile is almost endless as well, with such famous names as Helmut Newton, Steven Meisel, and Mario Testino at the top of the list.

But, when work is finished and the spotlights are taken down, Romulo is most comfortable enjoying the quieter pursuits of life, such as playing his ukulele, or playing cards with his friends, or visiting vintage second hand stores. He admits a fondness for dark chocolate and birthday cakes when he’s not on a shoot, and can often be found taking in the latest movies as a form of relaxation. He also hopes to open a small café in Brazil when he decides to retire from modeling, so that one day we can expect to find Romulo Pires sipping on his world famous Brazilian coffee and enjoying a quiet pastry in his home country once he becomes a private citizen again.

Brazilian Model Romulo Pires Considers His Long Term Plans

What does a young person do when they begin thinking about what lies ahead in their future? Although many people don’t really consider their retirement until they get close to retirement age, others, such as Brazilian supermodel Romulo Pires, have begun musing on the possibility of future options long before he will have to consider retirement. For example, when asked recently what he thinks he would be professionally if he didn’t fall into modelling, Romulo replied, “I never stop to think about it, but probably a mechanic.”

Similarly, when asked what he would like to do later in life, Romulo decided that he would like to “open a café in Brazil.” Perhaps this is why in his spare time, as if there were any, Romulo takes cooking lessons in preparation for his forthcoming business ventures. As a Brazilian with traces of Italian descent, Romulo grew up in his country’s capital of Brasilia, which hosts a variety of different ethnicities and cultures. As such, Romulo’s hometown offered him a melting pot of culinary choices to experience, so it might be difficult for him to decide which menu directions his café might take.

For example, he could stick to the obvious choice of a regional coffee bar, as Brazil is as renowned for its emerging café culture as for being one of the largest coffee producers in the world. Having also lived in Milan and Paris, though, Romulo could also opt for focusing on Italian or French cuisine, which would also fit in perfectly with Brazil’s multiethnic population. Whichever route he decides to go, it is certain that any type of café that Romulo Pires chooses to open will be as successful as his longtime modeling career. However, it will be a long time before any of us find out what he will do in retirement.
